| This view of Oban was done for the Barriemore Hotel, Oban, and was
completed in May 2003. The view is from the south
pier, and shows the iconic McCaig's Tower at the top. This tower is the logo used by
the hotel, which was also built by McCaig.
Below the tower lies a street of houses, linked to the main street
below by a winding pathway known as "Jacob' Ladder". This is a "cut
out" area of the window, with a 3-D ladder of wire and solder representing and
highlighting this lesser-known feature of Oban which is well-known to the proprietors and
their family, who are native to Oban.
Below the ladder, the main waterfront of Oban shows (from left to
right) Argyll Mansions and a row of shops, with their windows done in glass bevels.
The scene is loosely reflected in the water of the harbour, shown at
high tide. In the foreground, a design of Scottish thistles has been superimposed.
The panel measured approximately 2 feet by 6 feet (57 cm by 172
cm). It was mounted within a window recess in the hotel dining room, with a plain
glass window behind it. When the owners who commissioned it sold the Barriemore
Hotel, they took the window with them to their new home.
